Election Day 2007 is less than two weeks away. The Western New York Catholic and the New York State Catholic Conference have surveyed state and federal candidates for elective office across the state on issues important to Catholics. The story regarding the disappointing response to the survey will appear in the November paper, but is already on-line and available through this link: http://www.buffalodiocese.org/wnyc/voterguide.html We have also put together an on-line Voter Guide that shows you where the various candidates stand on important issues. Here is that link: http://www.buffalodiocese.org/wnyc/VoterGuide.pdf To look at candidates in other parts of New York State, you can go to this New York State Catholic Conference Web site: http://www.nyscatholic.org/pages/news/show_newsDetails.asp?id=301 The U.S. Bishops have made clear that Catholics have a moral responsibility to participate in the political process. In their pastoral statement, Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility they write: “All believers are called to faithful citizenship, to become informed, active, and responsible participants in the political process. Every voice matters in the public forum. Every vote counts. Every act of responsible citizenship is an exercise of significant individual power.” |
